  • Notes
    • James was born 1846 at St. Georges Bay, Newfoundland. James was the son of George BUTT and Ann Matilda PARSONS. James died 1918 at Woody Point, Bonne Bay, Disrtict of St. Barbe, Newfoundland, at age 72. In the south-arm of Bonne Bay there have been principally two families of BUTT's, of no known relation. One family, from Carbonear via the Labrador, settled at Curzon Village and the other family (the Merchamts) from Bay St. George. James, a merchant, came to Bonne Bay in the early 1900's, settling at Winter House Brook and later Woody Point. He had previously lived at Trout River and Chimney Cove. He was a native of Sandy Cove Point, Bay St. George.
