He married Martha PAYNE estimate 1864 at Bonne Bay, District of St. Barbe, Newfoundland. Martha was born 1844 at an unknown location. Martha was the daughter of Charles PAYNE and Elizabeth BRAKE. Martha died October 18, 1871 at an unknown location, at age 27. Died age 27 years.
He married Leah (Leth) MUDGE November 7, 1875 at Bonne Bay, District of St. Barbe, Newfoundland. Entry No. 54 - These are to certify that Josiah PAINE, widower, of Green Point and Leah MUDGE of Bonne Bay, Newfoundland, spinster, were married according to the Rite of the Church of England on the seventh day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five. (The said Josiah PAINE and Leah MUDGE having been previously married F of St. Matthew, 1875, by Mr. J.B. BAYLEY, Layreader, there being at the time no clergyman to be found in the Bay). By me Joseph J CURLING, Missionary Priest. The above marriage was solemnized between us; his mark X Josiah PAINE and her mark X Leah MUDGE. In the presence of us; Joseph MUDGE, her mark X Hannah DOLIMONT, his mark X Jesse HUMBER, his mark X George DOLIMONT.
