Conflicting evidence states that Esther was born circa 1849 at an unknown location.

Entry No. 26 - Andrew ELLSWORTH, formerly of Dorsetshire, England, bachelor, and Esther daughter of John and Amy ROBERTS of Bonne Bay, spinster, were married by me on the Feast of Saint Mark Ev (25 April) in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy four. (The said Andrew ELLSWORTH and Esther ROBERTS, having been previously married by a layman on the 18th September 1871, according to a custom prevailing on the shore, there being no clergyman there, resident, or to be found on the shore). Joseph J CURLING, Clerk in Holy Order. The above marriage was solemnized between us; his mark X Andrew ELLSWORTH and her mark X Esther ROBERTS. In the presence of us; his mark X Jesse DECKER. «tab»John, believed to be the youngest of the four brothers, settled at Rocky Harbour, Bonne Bay in the same year that he immigrated to Newfoundland. He later married Emma DECKER and sometime in thelate 1840's or early 1850's he moved his family to Woody Point, further in the Bay. John and his family were probably the first permanent settlers at Woody Poiny.

John, a fisherman, appears to be the first permanent settler at Woody Point, settling there in the late 1840's or early 1850's from Rocky Harbour after being there in 1835 from England.
