Married at Parson's Pond according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England, By me Joseph J CURLING. This marriage was solemnized between us: Henry HOUSE & Mary Ann PAYNE.     «tab»According to statements in local histories some researchers have concluded that Mary, wife of Charles PAYNE Senior, early resident of Cow Head, was born Mary BROOKS. This conclusion may not be correct and was likely based on the incomplete or biased reading of a notation in Bishop FIELD's 1849 List of Inhabitants. The conclusion is also questionable in light of a more recently discovered document, The Last Will and Testament of John BROOK, 1823.

    Mary Brooks (daughter of Robert Brooks and Mary (Park) Brooks) was born 1793 in Born with Indian name, She went to England and came back with the name Brooks, and died March 30, 1862 in Cow Head, NL, Canada. She married Charles Payne on 1810.
