John married Wilkshire, Margaret Elizabeth on 17 Mar 1909. Margaret (daughter of Wilkshire, William Brennet and Ash, Miriam Alfreda) was born on 8 Jul 1892 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada; died about 1915 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

I believe William Wilkshire was born in Ontario as stated in the census of 1881, but in the 1871 Ontario census it states that he was born in Newfoundland. In the 1891 census he was working as a mail driver. In 1901 census he was a general servan t, residing in Rose Bank Lot. 46, and worked for a farmer Mr. Grant for a yearly wage of $16. His health was very poorly at this time and they thought that the move to the country would be beneficial. When William and Miriam were married first t hey lived for a short time with his parents William and Catherine Wilkshire on the corner of Gerald and Orlebar St.. At the time of his death they lived in a little house situated in the old Church of England Cemetery on University Ave. which was later moved to Bishop St. and is still there today. At that time he was a gardener for St. Pauls Church. He died at 36 probably of TB.. The Daily Examiner - Dec. 12, 1905 states that the funeral was to be held from his late residence on Elm Ave . (University Ave.) and burial to be in the Peoples Cemetery.

William married Ash, Miriam Alfreda on 25 Jul 1887. Miriam (daughter of Ashe, Richard and Taylor, Mary Jane) was born on 6 Jun 1859 in Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada; died in 1911 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada; was buried in 1911 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Richard ASH was a fisherman born and raised in Carbonear,

owning his own vessel. He went annually to the Belle Isle

with his family to take part in the summer fishery there. It

was on one such voyage that Miriam Alfr eda ASH was born June

6, 1859, second child of Richard ASH and Jane TAYLOR. Five

children are recorded in the Methodist Church Records at

Carbonear between 1857 and 1867. Sometime between 1867 and

1872, he moved with his f amily to the west side of

Newfoundland settling at Trout Rive. In the church records

Robert, a son born on June 12, 1872, baptized July 31, and

died in July. Ezekiel Taylor ASH was baptized in April 27,

1876 by Rev. Geor ge Mullen, age 5 years. His daughter Muriel

(Ash) LOCHHART says her father always said he born in

Carbonear, so they probably moved around 1871. Ruby

Wilkshire BEARS always said that her grandparent's move to

Trout River w as due to the poor heathof Jane Taylor ASH,

the climate being better on the west coast. Richard, as

everyone call him in Trout River, is still spoken of today

by the older people. He has many descendents living all

over Canada and United States as well as in the Corner

Brook, Summerside, Irishtown, Trout River area.
