    Taylor's daughter Una Jacobs lives in Trout River very near the place her grandparents settled. She runs the P.O. there and has for many years. She is very involved in the community there. She showed us the location where her grandparents William and Mary Jane ( Ash ) Parsons and Richard Ash lived on the Trout River. They are buried in the United Church cemetery there on the hill overlooking the town.

    on the web site http://www.k12.nf.ca/jakeman/trwwi.htm and included in this album is a picture of - Robert Hann and Charles Hann of Trout River went overseas to fight in World War One. While fighting for his country in Summitt, France, Robert was shot to death by a German snipper in July 1918, almost at the end of the war. Taylor Parsons also of Trout River, was defending his country on the same battlefield. The authorities called on Taylor to identify the body of his friend, Robert. Taylor was left to inform Charles, who was in the hospital being treated for shrapnel wounds, about his brother, Robert's death. After recovering from his wounds, Charles returned to the battlefield to continue fighting for the freedom. He rem ained in England until the end of the war. Charles Hann was left disabled for life because of his wounds. He vowed that he would seek revenge for his brother's death by executing every German that fought in World War One.

    At the end of the war, Charles and Taylor returned to Trout River. At the age of 74 Charles died due to complications arising from his old war wound. Taylor died of natural causes at the age of 81.

    Notes:

    Richard ASH was a fisherman born and raised in Carbonear,

    owning his own vessel. He went annually to the Belle Isle

    with his family to take part in the summer fishery there. It

    was on one such voyage that Miriam Alfr eda ASH was born June

    6, 1859, second child of Richard ASH and Jane TAYLOR. Five

    children are recorded in the Methodist Church Records at

    Carbonear between 1857 and 1867. Sometime between 1867 and

    1872, he moved with his f amily to the west side of

    Newfoundland settling at Trout Rive. In the church records

    Robert, a son born on June 12, 1872, baptized July 31, and

    died in July. Ezekiel Taylor ASH was baptized in April 27,

    1876 by Rev. Geor ge Mullen, age 5 years. His daughter Muriel

    (Ash) LOCHHART says her father always said he born in

    Carbonear, so they probably moved around 1871. Ruby

    Wilkshire BEARS always said that her grandparent's move to

    Trout River w as due to the poor heathof Jane Taylor ASH,

    the climate being better on the west coast. Richard, as

    everyone call him in Trout River, is still spoken of today

    by the older people. He has many descendents living all

    over Canada and United States as well as in the Corner

    Brook, Summerside, Irishtown, Trout River area.
