  1. 12.  Jones, Captain Robert was born about 1759 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England; died before 1801.

    Notes:

1788 Sep 6 - married Robert Jones of Liver Poole in Lancashire in Great Britain and Mary Newell daughter of Jonah Newell Esq of this harbour, planter

Captain Robert's residency at this time of marriage is recorded in the Church of England's Trinity records as Liverpool, Lancs, England.

He is believed to be the master of an ocean-going vessel the "BRITANNIA" a picture of which exists on record at the Trinity Museum as entering NAPLES HARBOUR 1789 under the command of Captain ROBERT JONES.

Although, the said Captain ROBERT JONES appears to be the earliest ancestor in this connected JONES family tree line; there is on the Trinity records ROBERT JONES born 1760 to Stephin & Catherine believed part of the STICKLEY ancestral records an d the possibility must not be excluded that the ROBERT born to Stephin & Catherine is the Captain ROBERT of our search. It is conceivable that at a time when seamanship plans usually emerged early in youth; it was customary to complete midshipman ship and pursue master's papers in the seaports of England accounting for the residency at Liverpool. Young ROBERT could have made his way there - bent on acquiring a vessel and subsequently returned to his native harbor to proudly display his ve ssel in the harbor of his birth and ancestry and married MARY NEWELL after what could be one of several return voyages to Trinity prior to 1788 and for some years later.

Robert married Newell, Mary on 6 Sep 1788 in Trinity, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. Mary (daughter of Newell, Jonah and Mears, Hannah) was born about 1760 in Trinity, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, Canada; died in 1841 in Trinity, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. 2. 13.  Newell, Mary was born about 1760 in Trinity, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, Canada (daughter of Newell, Jonah and Mears, Hannah); died in 1841 in Trinity, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, Canada.

    Notes:

    1. Likely the daughter of Jonah Newell ( a prominent Planter) J.P. at Tinity, 1780.
    2. Also, likely a decendant of Thomas Newell buried at Trinity East on his plantation site, June 20, 1724.
