James was born circa 1843 at an unknown location. James was the son of John MATTHEWS and Elizabeth Ann DAVIDGE. James died 1930 at Trout River, District of St. Barbe, Newfoundland, at age 87. Data from the Register of Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths for the Church of England in the Parish of Bonne Bay, 1871 - 1879, from my visit 15 Jul 1993. Show a James MATTHEWS, as a witness to marriage # 91 between Thomas Walters and Rose Ann PAYNE, 4 Aug 1878, along witnesses Christiana PITTMAN, John NICOLLE, William PAYNE and Elizabeth PAYNE.

James Matthews [1516], son of John Matthews [4299] and Elizabeth ? [1515], was born about 1843 in Burgo, Newfoundland and died in 1930 in Trout River, Newfoundland aged about 87.
James married Matilda Payne [1517] [MRIN: 577] on 4 Dec 1876 by A Layman @ Bonne Bay, Nl.
Children from this marriage were:
i. Alice Jane Matthews [1936] was born on 12 Sep 1877 in Chimney Cove, Newfoundland and died on 15 Jun 1898 in Summerside, Newfoundland aged 20.
ii. Sarah Elizabeth Matthews [1941] was born on 20 Feb 1880 and was christened on 25 Feb 1880 in Chimney Cove, Newfoundland.
iii. John Matthews [1942]
iv. Lillian Belle Matthews [1946] was born on 16 Aug 1888.
v. Frances (Fanny) Matthews [1947] was born in 1884 in Chimney Cove, Newfoundland.

Matilda (daughter of Payne, Charles and Brake, Elizabeth) was born in 1854 in Bonne Bay, District of St. Barbe, Newfoundland; died in 1914 in Shoal Brook, Bonne Bay, District of St. Barbe, Newfoundland.
