Ellen Payne (Parsons).jpg Ellen and Her Geese 1880 (?) Cow Head Summerside Ellen (Parsons) Payne married John Payne, son of Cow Head's first settlers. She was born in 1833 and died in 1904. Ellen was married at the age of thirteen and gave birth to sixteen children. The building in the background was a cod fish factory belonging to the Payne brothers. Families in rural Newfoundland lived mainly from the land and the sea. Geese were raised for their meat, eggs and feathers which were used to make bedding. circa 1880?
